Navigating Conflict with Communication Skills

Rhea Colmar will be taking us for a thought-provoking dive into navigating conflict with an introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC). This 3 part class will combine mindfulness practices with NVC techniques and include practical exercises to help learn skills to communicate more effectively when conflicts arise. NVC, also known as compassionate communication, is a method of communication created by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg and is based on universal human feelings and needs. The purpose of NVC is to create empathy and to promote cooperative solutions that meet peoples' needs.
Research indicates that Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can be effective in improving interpersonal relationships, empathy, communication skills, and conflict resolution, particularly in areas like healthcare, education, and workplaces. Rhea presents the skills on the first and third Sundays and the group will review and discuss the implementation of the skills with role playing and discussion on the second session. One of our community members, Lori Pusey who has had extensive NVC training, will facilitate the group discussion.
