Mindfulness is a type of meditation that involves being aware of your current thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment or interpretation. It can help you relax your body and mind, and reduce stress. Mindfulness training has been shown to improve well being in almost every domain, physical, emotional, social, and cognitive.
Sunday, November 10th
2 - 4 PM
At our Community Center and Yoga Studio
106 Marshall Court, Unit 120
Wilmington, North Carolina 28411
This time will provide us with the opportunity to practice in a supportive group setting as we take a "pause" from the busyness within and around us.
While our focus will be on the actual practice of mindfulness meditation, we will also allow time for discussions on how to be with thoughts, emotions and physical sensations during meditation as we practice developing the ability to stay grounded when internal and/or external distractions arise.
This group is open to those who have an existing meditation practice or anyone who wishes to re-boot a current or vaguely existent practice.
Meditations will be lightly guided with time for sharing practice experiences and a brief gentle movement at the mid-point of our seated practices.

MBSR is an acronym for Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. It describes a protocol for teaching mindfulness that is one of the most widely researched meditation training programs available. Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at U Mass Medical School, it is now widely available from certified trainers all over the country. If we ever needed stress management, it is now. The program I recommend is from Dr. Dave Potter at Palousemindfulness.com.
Dr. Potter has been offering his own free MBSR course at palousemindfulness.com, and has provided opportunities to connect socially with graduates by offering monthly graduate meetings and a Facebook group, Recently, he has been offering small group support sessions
Mindfulness, the Pali word is SATI, is an acceptance practice. It teaches the skills needed to see and know things as they really are. A second and equally important skill is the skill of cultivation of wholesome mind states (like ease, joy and kindness) which can develop into wholesome character traits. This is the aim of cultivation; the Pali word is BHAVANA. This course introduces meditation practices that foster both mindfulness and the cultivation of wholesome traits.
There are no classes scheduled at this time. Please check back for future listings. If you are interested in taking this class, please take it online with Dr. Potter at palousemindfulness.com. The class is worth taking several times and I hope those of you who have take the course with me or elsewhere, will consider taking it again, with accountability through Dr. Potter. I will be inviting local graduates to participate in special Bhavana Community events through my personal list of local MBSR local graduates.
